INDIAN SOCIETY OF REMOTE SENSING
Pune Chapter
Takes great privilege and pleasure in inviting you all to the
NATIONAL SYMPOSIUM
ON
REMOTE SENSING & GEOINFORMATICS IN
INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPEMENT AND MANAGEMENT
29 November, 2010 – 4 December, 2010

FOCAL THEME:The Symposium will provide an overview of the key concepts and developments in Remote Senisng & Geoinformatics and its applications in Infrastructure development and management.
With the focus of our Nation shifting towards infrastructure development, through national programs like JNRUM, IRDP, etc and the participation of private players in infrastructure development, it is projected that investments to the tune of more than Rs. 1,000 Billion per annum will be made in the country across the next 5 - 7 years.
The efficacy of Remote Sensing and Geoinformatics in Infrastructure planning, development and management is well established through several programs promoted by the Department of Space and other governmental agencies. The theme of this symposium is therefore both apt for the Pune metropolitan region and timely in the national context.
It is expected that the Symposium will provide a forum for a direct interaction between the scientific community, technocrats, administrators and the users. The platform will expose the frontline developments in remote sensing and geoinformatics to the infrastructural developers, enabling the latter to appreciate the cost-saving and accuracy enabled by the technology. A recent study has shown that appropriate usage of the RS-GIS technology can actually save the developers up to 25% of their investments in infrastructure. The integrative nature of these technologies and their convergence with infrastructure development activities will be highlighted by peers in the field during the Symposium.
ISRS ANNUAL SYMPOSIA:
The Annual Symposia of the Indian Society of Remote Senisng are traditionally attended by all decision makers from the Department of Space; 1SRO, NRC (formerly NRSA) academic and professional organizations of the country and abroad and addresses themes of national importance. In addition, it is expected that the forthcoming event will be attended amongst others by decision makers from the Ministries of Urban Development, Surface Transport, Water, Earth Sciences and Science & Technology; as well as Developers and Reality agencies from across the nation.
Traditionally, the program also includes:
•
Dr. Vikram Sarabhai Memorial Lecture
•
Focal Theme Symposium with invited contributions for peers.
•
National Awards that recognize individual contributions to the field of
Remote Sensing and Geoinformatics.
•
Presidential Address;
•
Popular Lecture by an eminent peer from the field that enables a larger
public awareness of the developments in this technology and its
applications.
•
Exhibition to enable the industry and entrepreneurs to display their latest
offerings and interact directly with the User community.
•
Annual General Meeting of the ISRS.
The Symposia provide a platform for announcements to the general public on major national achievements and programs in space sciences and also a forum for scientific deliberations on the front-line developments in applications of Remote Sensing and Geoinformatics in various aspects of operational use. It also provides a platform for presentations of recent developments in its applications in environmental management, earth sciences, communications technologies and agriculture.
This year, a major initiative is being undertaken by the Society [ISRS], to induct larger participation from the student community. The Society will be sponsoring the participation in this Convention of about 50 students (graduate and post-graduate) from across the nation.
